WHAT IS THE JROTC AND WHAT CAN IT DO FOR ME

JROTC is a leadership development program that is designed to build more productive members of a community. The JROTC program was established by Congress in 1916. The program partners with local schools and teaches an accredited curriculum that teaches character educations, student achievement, wellness, leadership and diversity, motivating student to be better citizens.

WHY SHOULD I JOIN THE JROTC

At Clear Springs High School, students that take JROTC can get PE credit.

IS JROTC TRYING TO MAKE ME SIGN UP FOR THE MILITARY

JROTC is NOT a recruiting platform. JROTC is a leadership development program that is designed to build more productive members of a community. The JROTC program was established by Congress in 1916. The program partners with local schools and teaches an accredited curriculum that teaches character educations, student achievement, wellness, leadership, and diversity, motivating student to be better citizens. It also prepares Cadets for options like college, or the workforce.

WHO TEACHES IT

The curriculum is taught by qualified retired army personnel who are employed by the school. JROTC teacher qualifications are based on military experience, maturity, stability, and leadership acquired over 20 plus year of service. All instructors are certified by the Department of Defense (DOD) and the Department of Education.

WHO CAN JOIN

Participation is open to all high school students. It is placed on your schedule as a class. You will also be required to attend 2 additional events outside of school. These events are usually parades, the Military ball, or District JROTC events. Any other afterschool events are voluntary. You can be as active in the program as you choose.

WHAT DO I HAVE THE PAY FOR

Uniforms are loaned to students free of charge. You must pay for dry cleaning. Battalion T-shirts, name tapes are required and there is a small fee charged for them.

Camps and outside events may have a fee, but these are voluntary, and many are paid for by the JROTC program.

IS THIS THE SAME AS MILITARY SCHOOL OR BOOT CAMP

JROTC is not military school or boot camp, but basic principles of discipline, respect and adherence to the values of the Cadet Creed are central to the success of the program and the cadets.

Cadets are coached on a path to success and are regraded and recognized with advancement in rank and presentation of awards. Cadets who have a strong interest and leadership aptitude are given opportunities to excel in increasingly challenging leadership and staff positions.

DO COLLEGES LOOK FOR JROTC PARTICIPATION

Colleges and universities worldwide recognize the JROTC program, and it is highly regarded in the selection process for admissions and scholarships
