Col. James Shuto

COL. (Ret) James T. Shuto

Colonel (retired) James T. Shuto grew up in Cheyenne, Wyoming, the son of a restaurant owner and homemaker.

He was commissioned in the US Army as a Field Artillery officer and has spent 30 years in the US Army. His civilian education includes a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wyoming, Master of Science degree from The National Graduate School. He is a graduate of the US Army Airborne School, US Army Field Artillery Officer Basic and Advanced Course, Combined Arms Services Staff School, US Army Command and General Staff College and US Army War College. While at US Army War College, he earned his second Master of Science degree.

Colonel Shuto has served in the Wyoming Army National Guard started his AGR (Active Guard/Reserve) Title 10 career in 1999. He has served various command and staff positions from battery to brigade level in Wyoming Army National Guard as well as staff positions in the US Army Field Artillery School, Army National Guard Directorate, US Army Staff - Pentagon, US Army Forces Command, and has deployed to Afghanistan. He has worked as a teacher, restaurant manager, business owner, and (yes, the rumors are true) he spent one summer during his college years as a lumberjack.

Previously he served as the Chief of Staff for the Deputy Commanding General – Army National Guard at the US Army Fires Center of Excellence, Fort Sill, Oklahoma and Deputy Director of the US Army Forces Command, G-33 – Operations and Readiness Directorate in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He currently serves as the Senior Army Instructor for Clear Springs High School Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps.

His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal (5th award), Army Commendation Medal (5th award), Army Achievement Medal (7th award), National Defense Service Medal with Star, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.

Colonel Shuto loves to exercise. He also enjoys public speaking and learning - especially about people’s stories. He has addressed many organizations from Christian Academies, Elementary Schools, Drug Abuse Resistance Education program (DARE) program, Basic Combat Training – Boot Camp, and the Field Artillery Basic Officer Leader Course and the Field Artillery Captain’s Career Course.

He was a Board Member for the Field Artillery Association Executive Committee and Senior Mentor for the Field Artillery Basic Officer Leader Course He is married to Kirsti Shuto and together they have two amazing children.

SFC Douglas Lein

AI: Army Instructor, SFC (Ret) Doug Lein joined CSHS Army JROTC IN August 2007.

He is a graduate of the University of Houston, Clear Lake with a Bachelor Of Science Degree in Psychology.

SFC(RET) Lein served 20 years on active duty as a Military Police Patrolman, AWOL Apprehension Agent, Squad Leader, Protective Services Agent, Military Police Desk Sergeant and Physical Security Inspector.

The final years of SFC (Ret) Lein’s service were spent as an Army Recruiter, and an Army Recruiting Station Commander.

His awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Distinguished Unity Citation and The Gold Recruiting Badge, among others.
